Most Boise business websites are not badly built — they are just never optimized. The site went live, everyone moved on, and three years later it loads slowly, says nothing specific about the Treasure Valley, and quietly loses every “near me” search to a competitor who did the work. Here is the checklist I run on every site I optimize, in the order I do it. Nothing here requires a rebuild.
Technical: make the site easy to crawl and fast to load
1. Fix speed first
Run your homepage through PageSpeed Insights on mobile. If it scores under 70 or takes more than three seconds to become usable, start here — nothing else on this list works well on a slow site. The usual fixes are oversized images, too many plugins, no caching and cheap shared hosting. Compress images to WebP, remove plugins you are not using, and turn on server-level caching.
2. Make sure Google can index the right pages
Open Google Search Console and check the Pages report. You want your service pages indexed and junk pages (tag archives, thank-you pages, old test pages) excluded. Submit an XML sitemap if one is not already there, and make sure no important page is accidentally set to noindex.
3. Check mobile
More than half of local searches in Boise happen on a phone. Open the site on yours: tap targets should be easy to hit, the phone number should be a tap-to-call link, and nothing should require pinching to read.
4. Use HTTPS and one version of every URL
The site should load only at https://, and www vs non-www should redirect to a single version. Duplicate versions split your ranking signals.
On-page: tell Google what each page is about
5. Write a real title tag for every page
“Home” and “Services” are wasted titles. Each page gets a unique title under about 60 characters that names the service and the place: “Furnace Repair in Boise, ID | Company Name.” This is the single highest-leverage on-page change on most sites.
6. One H1 per page, headings that describe sections
The H1 says what the page is (“Residential Plumbing in Meridian”), and the H2s underneath break the page into scannable parts. Google reads headings as structure; so do people.
7. Put your city in the copy, naturally
If your service page never mentions Boise, Meridian, Eagle or Nampa, Google has no reason to show it for a Boise search. Mention the areas you serve in the intro, in a section about your service area, and in the footer with your address.
8. Link your pages to each other
Every service page should link to related services and back to your contact page with descriptive anchor text (“see our water heater installation”, not “click here”). Orphan pages — pages nothing links to — rarely rank.
Local: connect the site to how Boise actually searches
9. Build a page for each service and each city
One page called “Services” that lists eight things cannot rank for any of them. Give each core service its own page, and if you serve several Treasure Valley cities, give the important ones a page too. This is the step that moves local rankings the most.
10. Add LocalBusiness schema
Structured data tells Google your business name, address, phone, hours and service area in a format it can trust. It also helps AI search tools describe you correctly. Yoast, Rank Math or a small code snippet can add it site-wide.
11. Match the site to your Google Business Profile
Same name, same address, same phone, same categories, same services. Google cross-checks the two, and mismatches cost you map-pack visibility. Link the profile to your best landing page, not just the homepage.
12. Show reviews on the site
Pull your Google reviews onto your homepage and service pages. Reviews are trust for visitors, fresh content for Google, and the main thing AI assistants read when deciding whether to recommend you.
