“Digital marketing” is the phrase business owners use when they know they need more customers from the internet but aren’t sure which part of the internet. So when someone in Boise asks me what it costs, the first thing I do is unpack the phrase. Here’s the pricing landscape for the Treasure Valley in 2026, what the money actually buys, and how to decide what you need before you sign anything.
What Boise agencies typically charge
Most agencies in the Boise–Meridian–Eagle area sell digital marketing as a monthly retainer. From the quotes clients have shown me, the ranges look like this:
- Entry-level retainers: roughly $1,500–$3,000 per month. Usually a mix of social posts, a little SEO and a monthly report. Often the SEO portion is light — a blog post and some title tags.
- Mid-tier retainers: $3,000–$7,500 per month. Adds paid ads management (with the ad spend billed on top), more content, email and a dedicated account manager.
- Full-service: $7,500–$15,000+ per month. Everything above plus video, brand work and strategy meetings. Reasonable for a multi-location company; overkill for a single storefront or practice.
- Paid ads: agencies typically charge 15–25% of ad spend or a flat management fee, and the ad spend itself is a separate line — often $1,000–$5,000 per month for a local business.
- One-time website builds: anywhere from $3,000 to $25,000 depending on the shop. I covered this separately in how much a website costs in Boise.
None of those numbers are wrong on their face. The problem is what’s inside them. A $2,500 retainer that’s mostly Instagram posts for a plumbing company is money spent on the wrong channel. The same $2,500 spent on local SEO and a Google Business Profile that ranks would produce calls.
What the money should actually buy for a local business
For a Boise business that serves people in a specific area — a clinic, a contractor, a shop, a church, a professional office — customers come from three places online, in this order:
- Google search and the map pack. “Near me” searches and “[service] Boise” searches. This is where the highest-intent customers are, and it’s the channel with compounding returns: the work you do this month still ranks next year.
- Your website. Everything else sends people here. If it’s slow, dated or doesn’t say what you do in the first five seconds, every other dollar leaks out.
- Reviews and AI answers. Google reviews decide who gets the click in the map pack, and they’re also what ChatGPT, Perplexity and AI Overviews read when they recommend a business.
Social media, paid ads and email have their place — but for most local businesses they belong after those three are handled, not instead of them.
What I charge, and why it’s different
I’m one person, not an agency, so there’s no account manager, no junior team and no markup for overhead. My pricing is fixed and public:
- Local SEO: from $900 per month. Google Business Profile, local landing pages, citations, review strategy, on-page work and monthly rank tracking across your service area. Full details on my Local SEO pricing page.
- Website design: fixed quote after a short call. Custom build on WordPress, mobile-first, engineered to rank from day one — no hourly billing.
- AI search optimization is included in how I do local SEO, because it’s the same work done properly: consistent business data, pages that answer questions, schema and reviews.
The trade-off is honest: I don’t run big paid-ad campaigns, produce video or manage your social accounts. If you need those, an agency or a specialist is the right call — and I’ll say so.
How to decide what you need
Before you sign a retainer, ask yourself three questions:
- Where do my best customers come from today? If the answer is “Google” or “referrals,” your budget should go to search and reviews first.
- Does my website convert? If you’d be embarrassed to send a prospect to it, fix that before paying anyone to send traffic there.
- Can I measure it? Whatever you buy should come with calls, form fills and map-pack rankings you can see — not “impressions” or “engagement.”
If you answer those and still aren’t sure, request a free audit. I’ll show you where you currently rank in the Boise map pack, what your site is doing to help or hurt, and what I’d spend first — whether or not that’s with me.
